I love vision statements. My friends tease me about it, and I understand why. Setting a vision statement for a weekend trip or a group dinner is corny. But you know what? It works more often than not.

My vision statement for my sabbatical is: To pursue spiritual and intellectual clarity.

I hope my writing will at least describe those pursuits, and maybe even advance them.
